AOU refresh an Anglicare home with paint and a new garden
The rain didn't dampen the spirits of the energetic team of vols from Woodsides AOU team . The task ahead involved painting the interior of one of Anglicares transitional housing properties, ready for a mother and her young children to move in. Here properties are a safe haven for many young families at risk of homelessness and are a stepping stone while waiting for a housing authority property.
After a lovely welcome by Anglicare, the team split into two with one team painting inside and one team gardening outside. Painting saw the living room, kitchen, toilet, three bedrooms and laundry area all receive a fresh coat of paint.
The group tackling the gardening outside were equally as energetic and made short work of revamping the front garden beds. A whole new area was created and brightened up with some beautiful plants and shrubbery. A second flower bed was also created along the fencing line with a mix of beautiful Cordyline Australis 'red star' plants interspersed with some colourful sand gropers.
After a tasty morning tea and chance for the team to stretch their legs activity got underway again. While the painting team finished off the first coat of paint indoors, the gardening team turned their attention to the back garden where they tackled two new garden beds and constructed a raised gardening bed.
The team planted some beautiful white and purple iris flowers in one flower bed while Maree from Anglicare sourced more plants for the second garden bed.
A beautiful raised garden bed was also constructed and the team set to work filling it with soil and mulch ready for the fruit and vegetable seedlings to go in. The young family entering this property will enjoy a garden bed full of carrots, capsicum, lettuce, broad beans, strawberries and a collection of fresh herbs including basil, coriander and parsley.
After the lunch break there was a final dash to get a second coat of paint complete in each of the rooms . They say a picture speaks a thousand words and the before and after pictures show what an amazing contribution was made by the AOU team.
The Anglicare team were blown away by the transformation.
Well done team!
