Brownfields Engineering at Meerilinga (Hilton)

The Brownfields Engineering team were lucky to have a sunny start to their team volunteering day after a very thundery and stormy night. The team arrived at Meerilinga’ s newly acquired property and were welcomed by  Pat Hope, Senior Manager at Meerilinga. Pat was delighted to see to the team as she is well aware of the capacity and capabilities of Woodside teams and was excited to see what the Brownfields Engineering team could accomplish.

Pat briefed the team and explained that the property was newly aquired and hadn’t been occupied for over three years. Meerilinga was finall successful with acquiring the property on the condition that they would tidy it up and get it in good nick, deliver training programs for staff and parents. They leant team were in for a big day of cleaning and clearing three years of junk, weeds and odd bits and piece out of the site.

It was an amazing site to see, within a few minutes of starting the project the team had broken up into groups and collaborated to get each of the tasks done in a creative, efficient and effective way.

The team proved to be one of the hardest working teams of the year for Woodside, executing a long list of heavy duty labour based tasks (some of which required some creative problem solving). Splitting into smaller groups the team tackled several areas of the property at once, some of which included: clearing and tidying a shed, pulling apart an old shelf, trimming several bushes and trees around the gardening neatening over grown parts, weeding around the old abandon children’s playground amongst the sandpit, chopping down and pulling out a dead tree, collecting leaf litter and green waste around the garden and filling up a large skip bin, chopping down and pulling out a dead tree, sanding and painting storage room shelve and cleaning inside the property.

At this meeting the group were very excited to have Meerilinga on board complemented them on the way the centre is looking. The group offered letters of support to Meerilinga to help with the Lottery West application for the refurbishment of the centre.

Meerilinga has hosted a number of corporate volunteer days and we are so grateful to the support we receive from the volunteers but these days couldn’t happen without the amazing team from Volunteer WA.
