Geoscience

The Geoscience team’s volunteering day started off with a G'day and a 'thanks-in-advance' from Dean, the manager of Native ARC. The team were then filled in on who Native ARC are and what it is they do. Dean then began the serious business of providing the team with a comprehensive guide of what to do if you got bitten by a snake, which the team found to be very interesting and helpful.

After all that information, the team were ready to get stuck in, and so they collected their PPE and walked over to the enclosures where they were split into two groups. One group worked on a small demountable located within the Kangaroo enclosure, which was stripped and cleaned of dirt and debris. Admittedly, it was tricky to stay on task, as the curious and very friendly Kangaroos kept distracting the team to say "Hi!".

The other team members visited Vinnie the wombat and relevelled all his burrows that he had worked so hard to create - this was to create enrichment for Vinnie's mind and to stimulate him, by presenting him with a fresh personal project. When the volunteers were done, Vinnie was let back into his home and we watched him come out and grumpily inspect the mess that had been created. The team found his peeved reaction cute and hilarious, as he immediately started to dig and rebuild his burrows.

One volunteer commented on the experience and said it was an,

“enriching” day.

The team also spent the day weeding and gardening throughout the site, with some volunteers commenting that it was sometimes tricky to do as the,

“Duckings were so friendly it made work slightly slower”

As always, Native ARC didn’t fail to provide the team with a positive and rewarding experience, other comments on the day reflected this:

“ Team building, rewarding work and close up animal encounters”

“Fresh light, sunshine and exposure to nature”

A big thank you to the Geoscience team!
