R2-Bee-2 Graduate team builds a promotional strategy for Volunteering WA's volunteering program with Woodside

The R2-Bee-2 Graduate team worked to develop a marketing and communication strategy that Volunteering WA could use when promotion and managing the Woodside Skills-based Volunteering Program. Woodside employees are provided with twelve hours of paid volunteer leave per year as a part of the company’s Social Investment Program. Woodside has partnered with Volunteering WA to provide its staff with team- based and skills-based volunteering (SBV) opportunities. While the team-based volunteering option is relatively well-known and understood, skills-based volunteering is still somewhat new to Woodside staff. Therefore, the project required the Grad team to use their creative, marketing, communication and event planning skills to outline a campaign for promoting the SBV Program established between Volunteering WA and Woodside amongst their colleagues.

The team collaborated with Volunteering WA to assess the strategies used by both Woodside and Volunteering WA to develop a more targeted approach to promoting the program. They then designed the promotional strategy to include internal information about current forms of communication at Woodside, such as global newsletters, intranet and online portal links. VWA have found the recommendations and tips in the strategy extremely helpful, as they provide insights into the internal operations of promotion at Woodside from the employee perspective. Another aspect VWA are pleased with is the implementation guide, which is straight forward and easy to adopt. Overall, the report is filled with useful tips to market and engage future Woodside skilled- volunteers.

“It was insightful to have a set of fresh eyes and to view the approach from the employee perspective. We are confident that once all recommendations are implemented more Woodside employees will take advantage of the program and get excited about using their skills and interests to help the community."
