RESM Projects Team at Armadale Gosnells Landcare Group

Woodside participates in countless volunteering projects each year, with each one striving to achieve many Sustainable Development Goals* (SDGs). Volunteers facilitate SDGs by raising awareness and inspiring or engaging in grassroots efforts to bring about change.

This June, a mighty team of 24 volunteers from Woodside’s Reservoir Management (RESM) Projects Team were keen to channel their green thumbs to improve climate action (SDG 13) and life on land (SDG 15), one plant at a time. They jumped on board a team coach and set out to one of Armadale Gosnells Landcare Group’s restoration sites. Some team members even brought along their laptops as they were on call on the day but didn’t want to pass up on this opportunity to help out a worthy cause.

The Armadale Gosnells Landcare Group (AGLG) is a community led group operating in the Canning, Southern and Wungong River Catchments since 1998. The group coordinates landcare planning, river restoration, bushland management, community action and community awareness programs.

Team Working

The RESM Team joined the list of thousands of volunteers each year that help AGLG focus on implementing on-ground restoration and revegetation projects by planting native seedlings (trees, shrubs, herbs, sedges and rushes), which is vital to the regeneration of river banks and biodiversity.

On their volunteering day, the RESM Team arrived together and were given a quick planting demo to kick off the day. After, they were shown to their designated area and given all the tools they needed to get planting. They wasted no time getting started. The wet morning they started with was long gone and the sun was out to carry the team through the rest of the day.

By the end of the day the team planted close to a whopping 3,000 seedlings! AGLG were very impressed with the volunteers and their completion of their designated area, and the team felt pretty proud of their achievements as well, with each of them leaving the day beaming from ear to ear. They had a great time socialising with one another and being out in the fresh, albeit crisp, air. And it was an added bonus that they were able to finish the project in time and see the satisfaction in the AGLG staffs’ eyes.

A resounding message we got from the team was how rewarding the day was, but also how enjoyable it was! They loved being able to give back and do something good for such an amazing organisation, while also enjoying some sun and fresh air with their colleagues in a non-work environment. they also got a crash course on gardening!

“[I felt a] great sense of accomplishment and [had] fun.”
