Mixed team at Ride to Conquer Cancer (Event Set Up)

A call out was put out to Woodside employers to help with the setup of the Ride to Conquer fundraising event. The MACA Ride to Conquer Cancer is a cycling journey, a fundraising crusade, an event in which Woodside is proud to be a part of. Spread over two days and 200 kilometres, riders take to Perth’s majestic countryside in solidarity and promise to show that cancer is no match against their conviction to conquer it. Riders join a team raise funds to help benefit Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research. The team of 7 traded their morning in the office to help set up the sign in and registration tents by setting up tables, taping table cloths to the tables, hanging up signs and posters, setting up the street fencing and setting up the water stations.

PICOT at Friends of Yellagonga Regional Park

A large group of 33 volunteers from PICOT (Process, Instrument, Controls and Operations Technology) team came together to volunteer with Friends of Yellagonga (FOY). The motivation for the team volunteering day was to give back to the community while building their relations between each other. The team also wanted to focus on inclusion and diversity and connection to the land. Seeing as the team were about to move into Woodside’s new campus Mia Yellagonga, it seemed fitting to support an organisation who focus on conserving, rehabilitating and protecting Yellagonga Regional Park. FOY formed in 1993 and works in tandem with the Department of Parks and Wildlife (DPAW). The group are a group of local enthusiastic conservation volunteers who desire to protect and restore the bio-diversity of Perth’s northern suburbs regional parks for current and future generations to enjoy. Yellagonga regional park covers 13 Kilometres including, 3,500 acres of land and 1,400 acres of wetlands which include; Lake Joondalup, Beenup Swamp, Walluburnup Swamp and Lake Goolllelal.

AOU/FPSO at Dismantle

The AOU and FPSO were the first group from Woodside to volunteer with Dismantle - a local organisation aiming to mentor at risk youth through the use of bike mechanics workshops. Dismantle’s aims to enable and empower vulnerable young people to live their life in a self-directed way. One of Dismantles main initiatives is BikeRescue, a dynamic youth development program that uses hands-on skill-building to engage and mentor young people in need of support. BikeRescue builds knowledge, social skills, confidence and teamwork through various mechanical and mentoring activities. During BikeRescue, participants fully strip and rebuild two bikes each. The first is donated to charity, which earns them the second one to customise and keep for themselves.

Brownfields Engineering at Meerilinga (Hilton)

The Brownfields Engineering team were lucky to have a sunny start to the day after a very thundery and stormy night. The team arrived at Meerilinga’ s newly acquired property and were welcomed by Pat Hope, Senior Manager at Meerilinga. Pat was delighted to see to the team as she is well aware of the capacity and capabilities of Woodside teams and was excited to see what the Brownfields Engineering team could accomplish. The story behind the property was it hadn’t been occupied for over three years and Meerilinga has finally been successful with acquiring the property on the condition that they would tidy it up and get it in good nic, deliver training programs for staff and parents. This meant team were in for a big day of cleaning and clearing three years of junk, weeds and odd bits and piece out of the site. It was an amazing site to see, within a few mines of starting the project the team had broken up into groups and collaborated to get each of the tasks done in a creative, efficient and effective way.
