Team-based volunteering is a fun, interesting and meaningful way for Woodside employees to engage with each other in non-traditional settings outside the office. It also gives teams the opportunity to support community organisations by completing a worthwhile project that will last well beyond their single volunteer day.
Homeless Connect is an annual event in its 9th year running, which serves as a one-stop shop for people facing homelessness in Perth. Local businesses and community groups work tirelessly for months to put together the one day event. 23 members of the Woodside team turned their Monday Blues into sunny smiles at the Homeless Connect Warehouse on 7 November 2016.
Bicycles For Humanity is a volunteer run, grass roots charity organisation focused on the alleviation of poverty through sustainable transport – in the form of a bike. Every year around 1.5 million bikes are sold across Australia – it is estimated that around half of these will end up unused or abandoned. Bicycles for Humanity has its own team of dedicated volunteers who help out with repairing donated bikes which are then shipped off to countries whose communities desperately require the support. The Finance Social Club was able to work alongside these volunteers and learn about repairing bikes from them before the bikes were shipped to Africa.
Rainy September weather did not deter the mixed Woodside team of seven from lending a helping hand and friendly smiles to the residents of Juniper Rowethorpe. The facility is a 13 hectare premier retirement living location for residents over the age of 55 to live independently, surrounded by friends. It offers them various comfortable housing options, community and sports facilities.
St John of God Horizon House provides accommodation, support and care for young people between the ages of 16-22. The social outreach aims to break the cycle of homelessness and prepare young people for independent living. There are several houses in Western Australia and a team from Woodside were given the opportunity to visit and help at Horizon House, a house in Perth’s Northern Suburbs.
